The
Russian Empire, the end of the XIX century. Compact binoculars universal
Galilean type with Central focus, made by order of St. Petersburg
"Institution of optical, physical, mathematical, mechanical and
meteorological instruments" Oscar Richter. The increase of the device is
about 4x. Made of brass. The bodies of the optic tubes have a notch for easy
holding in hands, patinated in black. Other details - are painted also in black
color. The case is soft, made of fine smooth black leather, lined with a thin
blue fabric from the inside. Under the cover of the case, the name of the
company and information about its awards are printed on the fabric. On the
cover of the case there is a belt handle for easy carrying binoculars.
"The institution of optical, physical, mathematical, mechanical and
meteorological instruments" by Oscar Richter was founded in 1850 in St.
Petersburg by a Saxon citizen, a merchant of the 2nd Guild Richter
Oscar-Bernhard (1823 - ?). The company in the late 19th - early 20th century
gained great fame in St. Petersburg and was even recommended by the Ministry of
Finance for orders of sextants, theodolites and other optical equipment. The
store was on the corner of the Admiralty square, Nevsky prospect, Gref, No.
4/1. In 1883 the company was transformed into a trading house as a full
partnership. The owner of the trading house , in addition to Richter
Oscar-Bernhard, becomes Hartman Ewald-Emilia (1837-?). After the death of
Richter Oscar-Bernhard in business in 1893 enters his son Richter Emil-Richard.
Both partners live in the same house of Gref №4-1, where there is a shop and
workshop. In 1910, the owners
transferred the store to the address on the street. Moika, house 59. Later,
there is transferred and workshop. In 1917, 14 people worked in the workshop,
and in April 1918 – 4 people. The company ceased to exist after 1918. Guarantee
