Mexico 1908 Mo GV Porfirian "Peso Fuerte" series. Crown-size silver coin from the Mexico City Mint.
Lightly circulated condition with excellent details and fully visible snake. Visible luster and toning.
Appears to be spot cleaned on right of radiant cap - visible at an angle. Very strong strike with colorful obverse.
Mexico's counterpart to the Morgan Dollar, the Porfirian Peso Fuerte replaced the 8 Reales in 1898.
A staple of international trade, these coins circulated all over the world and became a global standard.
The nickname Peso Fuerte literally translates to "Strong Peso" and was rightfully earned due to its' 0.9027 silver purity and 27.073gr weight.
This gave foreign merchants a little more "bang for their buck" and quickly became their preferred form of payment instead of Mexico's rival's weaker trade dollars.
