    Description

    Hickok 534 tube tester description:
The Hickok model 534 is a 532 with the addition of a built-in VOM.
Many of the parts in the VOM needed to be replaced, see attached images. In the end, it all works except the capacitance measurement part. The tester does not match the schematic exactly, and deciphering that part of the circuit was more trouble than it was worth.
The tube tester itself works fine and is in calibration. I verified the output current accuracy and the applied test voltages. It tests a knowns 6L6 within 10% of the value my other Hickok's see. I also tested a 6SQ7 to test the Diode function switch and an 0Z4 to test that switch function.
Exception: The 0Z4 test is not quite right, but works fine if you set the English meter pot to 55 rather than the specified 75. If you do that, my 0Z4 tests the same as in our other three Hickok's. This only affects that one tube type, as it has its own Test button.
All four internal tubes (83, 5Y3 in the tube tester section and the two 6H6s in the VOM) test good. The line cord was replaced with a 3 wire grounding cord to protect the operator, who is touching the metal panel. The leakage current is just fine without the ground, but grounded is better.
The tester comes with the original manual including schematic, VOM test leads, tube adapters and a grid/plate cap lead.
